“The Court sees examples of domestic violence and abuse on an all too frequent basis and this ranges from actual assaults to coercive and financial control. The adverse effects on children of living in such an environment can also be profound and lasting. It is essential that there is a place of refuge and re-building available to victims and this, together with outreach, education and counselling is FREEDA’s (formerly Jersey Women’s Refuge) reason for being. The work that it does in this area meets a real need in our society. I am delighted to be a Patron of this incredible charity.”

“Domestic violence has a truly devastating impact on lives and families. In the 21st century every woman should have the freedom to feel safe in her own home.

FREEDA is a lifeline for those in desperate need and their support, care and work provides a vital service for Jersey. It enables women and families to feel secure and start rebuilding their lives.

The new name reflects the wide-reaching work into the community that the charity does.

I have been professionally involved in this area for many years and I am honoured to be a Co-patron and to offer my ongoing full support for the future.”
