Freeda celebrates fully qualified team of Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs)
Freeda is proud to announce that every full time support worker in its client services team is now a fully trained and qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) - a significant milestone in strengthening support for those affected by domestic abuse in Jersey.
What is an IDVA?
An IDVA is a specialist who works alongside individuals experiencing domestic abuse, providing practical guidance, emotional support, and advocacy.
At Freeda, IDVAs:
· Assess risk and support safety planning
Help individuals understand their options
Advocate with agencies such as police, health and housing
Provide one-to-one, trauma-informed support to rebuild confidence
Freeda delivers this support through its 24/7 helpline and safe house and outreach services. These client services are also now complemented by a new internal specialist domestic abuse counselling service, as well as our well-established Education and Community Engagement team.
Raising the standard of support
With a fully IDVA-qualified team, every person who contacts Freeda can expect consistent, expert and compassionate support, whether in crisis or on their journey to recovery.
What makes a Freeda IDVA unique?
Freeda’s IDVAs combine professional expertise with a deeply relational, trauma-informed approach:
· They prioritise trust, emotional safety, and being truly heard
They offer time, presence and empathy, not just practical help
They advocate across complex systems while keeping the individual at the centre
They focus on empowerment, supporting people to regain control of their lives
Quote - Kate Wright, CEO of Freeda
“This is a really important moment for Freeda. Having a fully IDVA-qualified team means that every person who reaches out to us is met with the highest level of professional expertise, alongside the compassion and understanding they deserve.
Our IDVAs don’t just provide advice - they stand alongside women and children through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They listen, they advocate, and they help people rebuild a sense of safety and control.
We’re incredibly proud of the team and of the care, skill and commitment they bring every single day.”
